The Hong Kong road
Primary school
Primary 5 and Primary 6 internal assessment results feed into secondary school allocation, so steady schoolwork matters.
Choosing a secondary school
Through the Secondary School Places Allocation system. See school application support for how it works.
Junior secondary
Schools build the foundation in the core subjects.
Senior secondary to the HKDSE
The HKDSE is the qualification taken at the end of senior secondary school and run by the HKEAA.
How the HKDSE works
- Core subjects
Chinese, English, Mathematics and Citizenship and Social Development, plus electives, usually two or three.
- Levels 1 to 5
Most subjects are reported in levels 1 to 5, with 5* and 5** at the top (Citizenship and Social Development is the exception, below). 5** is not a level above 5: it marks the best performers inside level 5.
- Citizenship and Social Development
It carries no numeric grade: results are Attained or Not Attained. It replaced Liberal Studies from the 2021/22 school year.
- Where it leads
Hong Kong university admission through JUPAS, with growing recognition by mainland and overseas universities through conversion tables.
How we help
- Tutorials in each subject
Private or small-group tutorials. General Tutorial is built around your child's own school and syllabus, and is usually one-to-one.
- Homework support
Steady help between lessons, run as a separate class.
- A conversation about next steps
Pathway advice when it is time to choose electives or schools.
Our promise
We never quote an expected grade, score or university outcome.
HKDSE
End of secondary schoolHong Kong's university-entrance qualification, taken at the end of senior secondary school and run by the HKEAA.
- How it works
- Students take four core subjects (Chinese, English, Mathematics and Citizenship and Social Development) plus electives, usually two or three. Most subjects are reported in levels from 1 to 5, with 5* and 5** at the top; Citizenship and Social Development is graded Attained or Not Attained.
- Choosing subjects
- Pick electives your child is strong in and enjoys, then check what the programmes they may want ask for.
- How we help
- Private or small-group tutorials in each subject, steady homework support, and a pathway conversation when it is time to choose.
